Thermodynamic Risk Intelligence.

Systems fail when insecurity outruns capacity.

Thermodynamic scoring for any system — nations, corridors, institutions, and workforces. First institutional deployments focus on macro allocators; the same engine powers every application below. Validated against 2008. Live monthly across 14 data pipelines.

By the time risk appears in your current tools, it has already priced in.

What you have

Analyst Reports

Subjective. Not reproducible. Written after the conditions that created the risk were already visible to markets. Priced in before it reaches your desk.

What you have

Country Risk Ratings

Backward-looking by design. Ratings agencies downgrade after deterioration is visible. The signal arrives when the opportunity to act on it is gone.

What you have

Quantitative Models

Capture financial variables through statistical correlation. No underlying physics of systemic failure. Blind to identity fragmentation, perceived insecurity, and the courage deficit that determines whether a system transforms or collapses. Miss the human system beneath the data.

What you receive

Intelligence you can act on Monday morning.

Subscriptions are annual and relationship-driven. Institutional engagements start at $50,000 annually.

Lead Time

The framework measures where entropy is building. Not where it has been.

01

Six domains scored simultaneously. Body, Mind, Identity, Perceived Insecurity, Adaptation, and Courage — the complete thermodynamic profile of any system.

02

The gap between Perceived and Structural Insecurity is where the intelligence lives. Markets price perception. The Index measures structure. That gap is your lead time.

03

When NII crosses a phase boundary, the conditions for regime transition are already present. The market event follows. The Index sees the boundary. Not the event.

Case Studies

Validated across history.

The Index has been applied to civilizations spanning four millennia. Each case study is a full analysis with domain scoring, phase classification, and AI-generated narrative.

First Principles

The physics of systemic failure.

Every system that has ever collapsed followed the same pattern — the same physics. Insecurity compounds. Capacity erodes. The gap between them widens until the system cannot recover. The Index measures that gap mathematically, in real time, before markets price it.

01

Define the system

The framework applies to any bounded human system. A nation-state and a corporation fail by the same physics. Scale changes the inputs. The formula does not change.

02

AI ingests all data

Economic time-series, capital flows, text corpora, sentiment, climate proxies — fused into a unified domain score per period. No analyst discretion in the input layer. No narrative contamination.

03

Scores. Not opinions.

Six domains. One formula. NII computed deterministically. The model cannot move the output. Every score is sourced, tiered, and traceable to primary evidence. What you receive is math, not a memo.

Domains

Six measures of systemic stress.

Six thermodynamic domains — the same first-principles dimensions whether you are scoring a nation, a market, or a corporation. Each answers a precise question. Together they produce the complete picture of where a system stands — and where it is going.

Body

Can the system physically function?

Energy, logistics, infrastructure, supply chains, labor, resources.

The Origin

Built from watching empires fall. Now running on everything.

In 1990, a historian studying the collapse of the British Empire identified a thermodynamic pattern: every failing system — civilizations, corporations, armies, institutions — fails by the same physics. Insecurity rises faster than the system can adapt.

W. Travis Hanes III, Ph.D. spent the next 35 years proving it. His doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin, his published scholarship on imperial diplomacy, and his research into how dominant powers make catastrophic decisions under systemic stress all pointed to the same six questions.

No other risk intelligence platform, actively deployed, was built on first-principles thermodynamics. Most were built around data availability and statistical correlation. The difference is what you see 68 months before Lehman — and what you miss.

The Entropy Index team deploys proprietary capital against NII signals — the same signals available to institutional clients. We have no interest in selling intelligence we don't believe in enough to trade ourselves.

1990

THE OBSERVATION THAT STARTED IT

A historian studying imperial collapse identified the thermodynamic principle governing every human system - before a single line of code existed.

6

DOMAINS. ONE FRAMEWORK. ANY SCALE.

Body, Mind, Identity, Perceived Insecurity, Adaptation, Courage. From ancient civilizations to modern corporations - the same six questions determine whether any system survives.

ZERO

SUBJECTIVITY IN THE FORMULA

AI scores the domains. The engine computes everything else. The formula is deterministic, locked, and traceable to primary evidence. No analyst opinion in the output.

35+

YEARS BEFORE THIS BECAME POSSIBLE

The framework was complete long before the technology existed to run it. That gap is now closed.

Index Logic

Deterministic math. No drift.

The formulas derive from thermodynamic first principles — stress, capacity, and the entropy gap between them. AI scores the domains. The engine computes everything else. The formula cannot be influenced by the model.

Phase thresholds

NII < −0.5

Transformation

Capacity exceeds stress. The system has room to reform without immediate destabilization.

Methodology

First-principles thermodynamics — stress versus capacity. Systemic stress measured by IS, response measured by RC, and NII as the delta between them. NII is always read as the gap between systemic stress and the capacity to respond to it.
